The Mahwah Police Department offers the services of the Saddle River Valley Domestic Violence Crisis Response Team (DVCRT) to victims of domestic violence. A fully trained member of the DVCRT will speak with the victim and explain the rights of the victim under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act of 1990. The DVCRT member will further assist the victim in the following manner:
· Explain available options.
· Explain applicable criminal justice and civil court procedures.
· Explain the option of obtaining a restraining order and the remedies therein available.
· Arrange shelter for the victim and minor children.
· Provide referral/information about the appropriate crisis services available.
· Arrange for a language interpreter to assist the victim in communicating with the police.
Any interaction between the victim and the DVCRT member is confidential (with certain exceptions).
