Please Read Prior to Submitting Your Application

Mahwah Police Department can only process applications for Mahwah Residents. Out of state residents must apply to the New Jersey State Police.

The Mahwah Police Department Firearms Identification Unit assists residents with the application, processing, and registration of firearms. The Firearms Identification Unit may be reached at 201-529-1000 Ext. 211 or via e-mail at firearms@mahwahpd.org.

  1. When you log on, you must enter the following Mahwah Police Department ORI #: NJ0023300

  2. Complete the online application.

    • You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer.

Gun Safety and Responsible Gun Ownership

Mahwah Police Department is in partnership with the BeSMART Program. The program is designed to help promote proper firearm storage and to normalize the conversation regarding responsible gun ownership in order to reduce child gun deaths.

PAYMENT:

  1. Submit money order in the amount of $150 payable to the Township of Mahwah

    • Please include full name of applicant on the money order.

    • NO Cash or Personal checks will be accepted.

    • Payment can be dropped off at Mahwah Police Headquarters 24/7.


Please Note

Your application will not be considered complete and will not be processed until payment is received.

If your application is denied by Mahwah Chief of Police you will be notified in writing and will have thirty days (30) to appeal the denial to the Superior Court of Bergen County.
