Mahwah Police Officers to Use Body Worn Cameras

Beginning in February of 2023, the Mahwah Police Department will begin training and equipping all of our Police Officers with body worn cameras in compliance with NJ Attorney General’s Directive 2021-5.

The body worn cameras will capture audio and video recordings of police/citizen interactions and will be utilized in accordance with the guidelines and directives established by the NJ Attorney General’s Office and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, as well as, the Mahwah Police Department’s own policies and procedures.

A Valuable Tool

The use of body worn cameras is a valuable tool to assist our officers in the successful prosecution of criminal cases.

In addition, the recordings will also serve to strengthen the trust and transparency our department has with the public by ensuring our officers maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

All uniformed officers who are equipped with body worn cameras will wear them on the front, center chest area of their uniform/ equipment.  Photographs of the LensLock Gen 12 body worn camera and where they will be worn on an officer’s uniform/attire are provided for reference.
