Help Keep Mahwah Safe: A Guide to Bergen County Crime Stoppers

At the Mahwah Police Department, our partnership with the community is our most valuable asset in fighting crime.

We understand that sometimes, residents have vital information but are hesitant to come forward due to fear of identification or retaliation.

That is why we are proud to offer cooperation to the Bergen County Crime Stoppers.

Whether you have witnessed a crime or have details about a fugitive, you can help keep Mahwah safe completely anonymously—and you might even be rewarded for it.

What is Bergen County Crime Stoppers?

Bergen County Crime Stoppers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization led by citizens dedicated to community safety. Established in 1982 as "Tri-Community CrimeStoppers," it has grown to include seven specific municipalities, including Mahwah, Bergenfield, Bogota, Englewood, Hackensack, South Hackensack, and Teaneck.

This program allows concerned citizens to provide information to law enforcement without revealing their identity.

The Incentive: Cash Rewards

We want to solve crimes, and we value your help.

  • The Reward: You can receive up to $1,000.00 for a tip that leads to an arrest.*

  • The Follow-up: If your tip leads to an arrest, the cash reward is provided directly by Crime Stoppers.

100% Anonymous. Guaranteed.

The most important aspect of this program is your safety and privacy. The process is designed to ensure you remain completely unidentifiable.

  • No Caller ID: Phone tracking software and Caller ID are never used.

  • Encrypted Online Forms: Tips submitted through the website are fully encrypted and confidential.

  • The Secret Number System: When you submit a tip, you are given a unique "Secret Number." This number becomes your only identity in the system. You use this number to follow up on your tip and claim your reward—you never have to give your name.

How to Submit a Tip

There are two easy, confidential ways to submit information regarding crimes in Mahwah or the partner municipalities:

  1. By Phone (24/7) Call 844-466-6789. Staffers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to take your information.

  2. Online Submit a tip via the encrypted Online Form.

What Details Should You Provide?

To increase the chances of an arrest and a reward, please be prepared to give as much detail as possible. When submitting a tip, try to answer the following:

  • WHO: Names, nicknames, age, physical description (height, weight, tattoos, clothing), and associates.

  • WHAT: What type of crime was committed, or what is the fugitive wanted for?

  • WHEN: When did the crime occur, or when will the suspect be at a specific location?

  • WHERE: Location of the crime, location of stolen items, or where the fugitive is hiding.

Important Note: Emergency Situations

Please remember that Crime Stoppers is a tip line for solving crimes and locating fugitives.

If you are witnessing a crime in progress or have an immediate emergency, DO NOT use the tip line. Call 911 immediately.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

By partnering with Bergen County Crime Stoppers, the Mahwah Police Department hopes to close unsolved cases and apprehend wanted individuals. If you know something, say something. Your single tip could make our township safer for everyone.
